Zippy Kickstart Resources

Mike LazarusFounder of Zippy Kickstart

Here you will find the tools and training I've used to build my internet marketing business. Keep in mind that some of them are affiliate links. This has zero impact on my recommendations. I've tried to structure this page as a "marketers journey". As you scroll down the page, you "level-up" your business.

Start With The Right Training

The Authority Site System

If you want to take the "content marketing" approach (creating free content to grow an audience), this course may be for you. This  course will teach you, step-by-step, how to build an authority site in any niche. As a result, if you are willing to put in the work, you can position yourself as an authority in your niche, earn free organic traffic, build your email list for free, and generate affiliate sales. Keep in mind that you will be trading your time for money, and you must be willing to delay gratification until your content begins to gain traction. This is true with any content-marketing approach, but the results may be worth it for you in the long run.

DotCom Secrets Book

If you want to take a "product creation" approach (creating your own product to sell), this book is REQUIRED reading. Russell Brunson has years of learning and thousands of split tests under his belt. He breaks all that down into a simple process that anyone can follow to start, grow, and maintain a successful product creation business. I consider this the most complete, polished, and exhaustive training on the topic of product creation.

E5 C.A.M.P. Masterclass

If you want to take a product creation approach (and Russell Brunson isn't your style), consider studying under Todd Brown. This course teaches you a process to grow a large list of customers with just one evergreen customer-generating marketing campaign. It is incredibly detailed and I consider it his best training to-date. I personally like his humility because he admits that he still makes mistakes and not every funnel is a home run. This is true with every marketer, but Todd isn't afraid to lay it all on the table.

Register Your Domain

Bluehost

I use Bluehost to host my websites. (TIP: you only need one hosting plan for all your sites). They have 1-Click WordPress Install and Free SSL Certificates, so my WordPress sites are easy to set up and optimized for Google. Every problem I've run into has been resolved 100% of the time. I strongly stand by Bluehost. If my opinion changes, I will update this recommendation.

Build Your WordPress Site

Thrive Themes Membership

Thrive Themes is a company built by marketers (not coding-nerds with zero marketing experience). Their themes are simple, fast, lightweight, & designed for marketers like us. Their membership includes 10 different WordPress themes, Thrive Content Builder (visual editor for creating pages, post, and landing pages - including this page), Thrive Leads (the best opt-in forms you can put on your site), and more. You can cancel your membership at any time and keep the stuff that's already installed on your site. The result? The best WordPress site you can build + the cheapest price.

Install Your WordPress Plugins

Pretty Link Lite

Affiliate links are ugly. Here's my affiliate link for Thrive Themes: https://thrivethemes.com/affiliates/ref.php?id=2416. And here is the same link using "Pretty Link Lite": https://zippykickstart.com/thrivethemes. This plugin also tracks your clicks, so you can see which affiliate links your audience is most responsive to. I do NOT recommend buying the pro version unless you have a good reason to.

Recommendation Level: MEDIUM

Yoast SEO

Yoast SEO is the best SEO plugin out there due to simplicity and power. If you are doing content marketing with your blog or trying to get organic traffic from Google, you MUST have this. If your site is just a sales funnel, and you do not want traffic from Google, this is not necessary.

Recommendation Level: MEDIUM

WordFence Security

Your WordPress site will get attacked by dozens of malicious bots every day (even when it's a new site). Most of them try to brute-force login to your site and install malicious code. WordFence Security is a cutting-edge security plugin that will stop malicious bots dead in their tracks. There are many similar security plugins, but WordFence Security is the only one I personally trust.

Recommendation Level: STRONG

Legal Pages Pro

The worst part of running an online business is doing your taxes. The second worst part is creating your legal pages. Luckily, I found a WordPress plugin that does 90% of the "legal pages" work for you. All you have to do is fill in basic details about your business, specify what kind of online business you own, and the plugin will auto-generate the legal pages you need to stay compliant with the FCC and most paid advertising platforms.

Start Your Email List

Getresponse

I started my internet marketing career using GetResponse to build my email list and send emails to my audience. I still recommend them, especially if you are new to internet marketing. They have a very good relationship with email providers like Gmail & Yahoo Mail, so your emails are far less likely to end up in the SPAM folder. They are VERY friendly towards affiliate marketers (you can put affiliate links in your emails). The only thing that I didn't like about Getresponse is their user interface. I found it difficult to navigate, but I'm VERY CONFIDENT that this will improve in the future.

Recommendation Level: STRONG

Active Campaign

I am currently using Active Campaign to build my list and send emails to my audience. I switched away from GetResponse for two reasons. First, I wanted a cleaner interface. Second, I wanted the ability to segment my subscribers with "tags" instead of "lists" (advanced concept). I LOVE how well they integrate with Thrive Cart (I can tag new customers with the products they purchase). Active Campaign is not very friendly towards affiliate marketers (direct affiliate links in your emails are frowned upon), so proceed with caution and prepare to play by strict affiliate marketing rules.

Recommendation Level: LIGHT

Autoresponder Madness

Email marketing is CRITICAL to your success. I originally learned email marketing from a $250 course called Build My List (which has been discontinued). Autoresponder Madness is the only resource on this page that I don't have personal experience with. But my friend Miles Beckler (who I personally trust) claims that Autoresponder Madness is the "be-all-end-all" course on the subject. Because I trust Miles. I feel comfortable recommending it to you.

Start Your YouTube Channel

Camtasia Studio

I use Camtasia Studio to record and edit all my videos. Camtasia gives me the ability to capture my webcam, my audio, & my screen at the same time. Then, edit my video right after I'm done. It's great for creating any type of content-driven video I want. Available on both Windows & Mac.

Recommendation Level: MEDIUM

Screenflow

Screenflow is very similar to Camtasia, but slightly better in my opinion. Capture your webcam, audio, and computer screen. Then, edit your video and produce it. Great for any content-driven video you want to produce. Available only on Mac.

Recommendation Level: MEDIUM

Logitech C920

This is the webcam that I use to record all my videos. It's not the best camera, but it IS the best webcam that money can buy. You can get a used one for around $50, and it records GREAT video.

Recommendation Level: LIGHT

IntroChamp

Your YouTube Channel should always be pushing your BRAND (your company or personal name). Include a 5-10 second intro in your videos to re-enforce your brand. For a few bucks, you can create your own custom intro video.

Recommendation Level: LIGHT

TubeBuddy

TubeBuddy is a Chrome Extension that overlays additional functionality on YouTube.com. Designed for Youtubers, TubeBuddy speeds-up some of the repetitive tasks that content creators have to do, like tag research and thumbnail generation.

Recommendation Level: LIGHT

Protect Your Paid Content

Wishlist Member

There are lots of different "membership plugins" to choose from to protect your paid content. I use Wishlist Member because it integrates with all the tools that I use in my business (Example: Thrive Cart connects with Wishlist Member & automatically creates a user account for new customers). Plus, Wishlist Member has a Setup Wizard that makes setup easy. There are cheaper options out there, but I use Wishlist Member because I know all current (and future) services & tools will integrate well with it.

Recommendation Level: MEDIUM

Set Up Your Shopping Cart

Thrive Cart

If your goal is to create a product and advertise it yourself through paid advertising (like Facebook Ads), it is CRITICAL that you have high converting checkout pages with one-click upsell functionality. The higher your sales funnel converts, the more you can spend to acquire a customer. If you read the DotCom Secrets book, you already know that "The marketer that can spend the most to acquire a customer is the one that wins" -Russel Brunson. This is where Thrive Cart comes in. High converting checkout pages lead to higher sales conversions, higher order value, higher ROI, and higher ability to outbid your competitors. This means more leads and more sales for your business, without losing any money on advertising that doesn't work. Bottom Line: Don't run paid advertising unless you are using Thrive Cart.

Recommendation Level: STRONG

Jvzoo

If your goal is to do "product launches", you are not alone. Many marketers don't know how to effectively advertise their products on platforms like Facebook, so they rely on affiliates to drive all the sales for them. They give affiliates 50-100% commissions to drive all the traffic. I am personally against this model, because you have to CONSTANTLY create new products to maintain momentum. But some marketers have built up "armies of affiliates" over time, and regularly do five-figure product launches. If this is your style, Jvzoo is the best platform to be on. But prepare to work like a mad-man.

Recommendation Level: MEDIUM

Start Advertising

Social Marketing Masterclass

If there is one shortcut to rapid growth & success, a Break-Even Sales Funnel is it (spend $100 in ads, earn $100 in sales). with this model, your advertising is paid for by your sales funnel and you can build a huge email list of leads essentially for free.  THAT is the secret to this business, so read it twice. But if the math is off, you will burn a hole in your pocket trying to run ads. This is the best Facebook Advertising course I've been able to find that will take you from beginner to advanced (and even teach you how to start your own social media marketing agency)

Recommendation Level: STRONG

Automate Your Business

Upwork

What is your time worth? There are lots of small, repetitive tasks in your business that could be handed off to a virtual assistant (example: blog posts, support, email marketing, etc). The goal is to free your mind and your workload, so you can focus on the tasks that will GROW your business, and delegate the tasks that will MAINTAIN your business. I use Upwork to hire virtual assistants in other countries (like India, Ukraine, & the Philippines). Virtual assistants in these countries will work for $5-10/hr because the Dollar (and Euro) are a much stronger currency than their native currency.

Recommendation Level: MEDIUM

Fiverr

If you have a one-time task you need to get done (like a book cover), you can go to Fiverr. Freelancers post what they are able to do as a service, and you can buy the service from them. Think of Fiverr as short-term work, not long-term work.
